Shahid Kapoor-starrer `Badmaash Company`, about four friends doing con jobs to become rich overnight, has got good reviews and viewers have enjoyed their capers but first time director Parmeet Sethi says he wrote the script of the film in frustration.
"The bell actually rang three years back when I was sure that I will direct a film. This is the second script that I have written," Parmeet told reporters.
"Yash Raj Films (YRF) had approved my first script too, but we couldn`t make it. I waited for one and a half years, but the film didn`t take off and I was frustrated. I was in a dilemma whether to stick to my plans to direct a film or go back to acting. Then in frustration, I wrote this script," he added.
"I had five ideas with me out of which two were most compelling. I wanted to write another script before this but that required research work in Canada, which would have taken six months. I didn`t have the money. I didn`t have the time. So I chose this one because I enjoy the genre very much. I think no one has done a full-on con film intelligently," the actor-turned director said.
Set in the 1990s, "Badmaash Company" is about four young friends - Shahid, Anushka Sharma, Vir Das and Meiyang Chang - from middle-class Mumbai who get together to start a company. Their business is an instant hit because they find a way to beat the system by doing all the wrong things in a right way.
The critics have praised the film despite it being too long.
"First, I worked out the whole con thing in my head, then I put it down on paper as script and then wrote dialogues. There are four con jobs in the film and I had to come up with interesting ideas each time to make it as believable as possible," said Parmeet.
To get the right feel of the 1990s, he shot some scenes in Hyderabad.
"The cars, the houses and other locations that we shot in Mumbai, I was particular about everything because I wanted to bring the essence of the 1990s. I actually went to Hyderabad to shoot the airport scene. Mumbai airport of today is very, very modern. But the Hyderabad airport still looks like the old Mumbai airport," he said.
The director, who worked with freshers like Vir and Chang, says he signed Anushka Sharma on Aditya Chopra`s recommendation.
"I wanted some very fresh faces and Vir and Chang were the perfect choice. I didn`t want to have predictable faces. Anushka was Adi`s recommendation. I didn`t know her personally. I was a little doubtful, but Adi assured me that I`ll like her once we meet," he said.
Parmeet, who featured in Aditya`s directorial debut "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (1995), says he was sceptical while approaching YRF to produce the film.
"I spoke over phone and asked for an appointment with Adi and I got it. That`s all I did. In the last 15 years I hardly met Adi as he hardly socialises...everyone knows that. I was hoping he hadn`t forgotten me. But he not only gave me the appointment but gave me respect and was pleasantly surprised by my script," he said.
Parmeet now wants to be behind the camera and make more films but doesn`t rule out the possibility of getting back to acting.
"I haven`t said good bye to anything. I don`t want to be cocky about life. But as of now it`s only direction for me. I think this is my main career now."

Shahid Kapoor is a closed chapter-Kareena Kapoor
The lie of so-called ’cool break up’ between Shahid and Kareena was exposed when the duo refused to romance in two new songs for their much-delayed Boney Kapoor film Milenge Milenge.
Though Kareena refused to comment, a source close to her says, “Kareena is more than happy to extend all cooperation to producer Boney Kapoor and director Satish Kaushik, but she won’t shoot an extra songs for the film. Shahid is a closed chapter.”
This has made hapless Satish Kaushik to use the footage for the two songs, which would be used as promotional videos. It is also said that the actors would not promote for the film together.
A music video for the newly-recorded Himesh track was also planned as part of the film’s promotion. However, there would be no joint appearances by Shahid and Kareena.

Shahid Kapoor's speech defect the fashion statement
Shahid Kapoor’s speech defect inKAMINEY is now a fashion statement, and is being copied by the young and old. The actor not only essayed both hisspeech defect roles (a news that we broke, as usual, on April 14 - Shahid stammers when nervous! ) to perfection, but with the cute way in which he spoke, he won all the hearts, and we can now hear many trying to emulate his style by substituting ’s’ with ’f’.
School children, and especially the youth have picked up his style and made it into a fashionstatement. We have had fans emulating hairstyles, dresses and walking, dancing styles of their favourite actors, but this is the first time in the history of cinema that the mannerisms relating tospeech defect are being aped by so many.
In fact, people even go to the extent of calling out to Shahid when they see him, by asking, ’Arre, Fahid, kaifa hai tu yaar?" and Shahid simply enjoys all the attention. Recently, in an interview to a leading daily, he admitted that it was really very nice to know that people find him synonymous to his character of Charlie in KAMINEY.
Well, Shahid it’s your charm that has ensured that your latest Eid release, DIL BOLE HADIPPA, has shown decent collections, despite a super strong challenger in the form of Salman Khan’s much hyped WANTED. Way to go, man.

Shahid Kapoor to seriously consider hiring personal bodyguards now
Last month Shahid was able to save a paper cup full of coffee without a drop spilling despite being mobbed while promoting his then upcoming film KAMINEY. This week post the release of this blockbuster, when Shahid walked across screaming fans on his multiplex visits, he not only lost his expensive dark glasses, but his metallic coffee flask was actually broken thanks to hysterical fans.
The spurt of fans since his superstardom has taken gigantic proportions. So much so that his spot boy, makeup artist, manager and publicist are almost doubling up as his body guards, struggling to keep him and themselves secure at public events.
It’s not easy to break a metallic flask even in normal circumstances. This incident coupled with his sunglasses being picked up, and his team dealing with the increased crowds has lead Shahid to seriously consider hiring personal bodyguards now.
’’Yes I am currently in talks with some security agencies so as to make sure my team’s security is taken care of at such times,’’ said Shahid Kapoor.

Shahid in one of his most likeable avatars alongwith Miss Chopra
Kaminey - the very term that could actually invoke anybody to bash the person mouthing it, also happens to be the name of the much anticipated film that stars Shahid Kapoor alongwith the Priyanka Chopra and directed by the ever so versatile Vishal Bhardwaj.
For many days, after the announcement of the film, not even a single soul got to know of Shahid’s double role in it, a much guarded secret that has now become the USP of the film! So much for irony. The adjoining snap has Shahid in one of his most likeable avatars alongwith Miss Chopra, which has been shot inside of a train.
Well, the news from our reliable sources also has it that the till now chocolate boy Shahid will be seen as someone who is totally absolutely raw, rigid and sturdy!
Not just that, even the locations in which the film has shot have been kept as rustic as possible, which includes local stations, and scarp and junkyards!
Word also has it that in this film, Priyanka plays an extremely vocal Maharashtrian girl, who believes in making herself heard. If that wasn’t enough, then, hear this one.
Kaminey also marks the ’debut’ of Amole Gupte as the ruthless villain. For starters, Amole is the very name that was in eternal spotlight for quite sometime, courtesy the ’creative differences’ between him and Aamir Khan, during the shoot of Taare Zameen Par.
Well, we are just having galore of reasons to yearn for that time machine as we just cannot wait any longer for Kaminey.

‘Kaminey’ is by far the most awaited and talked about films of 2009
‘Kaminey’ is by far the most awaited and talked about films of 2009. The film stars Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra along with Amole Gupte and is directed by the ace director Vishal Bhardwaj. Amole Gupte, who wrote the story and screenplay of Taare Zameen Par makes his acting debut with this film as a comical Don, Bhope Bhau. The movie is being produced by UTV Motion Pictures.
The film has Shahid Kapoor in a double role for the first time in his career- Guddu and Charlie. While Charlie has a lisp, Guddu would be seen stammering. Shahid sports a bronzed and rugged look in the film and has also developed a chiseled physique for his character.
Priyanka Chopra, who looked her glamorous best in her last two flicks, ‘Dostana’ and ‘Fashion ’, will be seen playing Sweety, a simple Maharashtrian girl and hence would be seen dressed in simple Indian dresses like salwar kameez and even the traditional Maharashtrian saree. The actress has even spoken quite a lot of Marathi in the film.

I don’t like talking about Sania Mirza-Shahid Kapur
Shahid Kapur is a busy man these days, doing Kaminay with Vishal Bharadwaj, another movie with Ken Ghosh and his first venture with Yash Raj Films.
But the actor isn’t too keen to ‘grow up’ on screen and says he hopes to continue playing boyish roles. But what he’s looking forward to most right now, is being directed by dad Pankaj Kapur.
You’re going to be directed by your dad?
That’s right. We’re looking at starting very soon. I’ve pushed him for years to take the plunge as a director. He has all these lovely scripts lying around that only his family knows about. I really wanted him to direct me... He has finally come up with something he thinks will do justice to both of us. I’m very excited about working with dad.
Did the irony of the coincidence of your break-up with Kareena and the success of Jab We Met strike you?
It’s too glaring for me not to notice it. But that’s life for you. I’ve always accepted what life gives you. I think what defines my life is not what happens to me but how I deal with it.
Do questions on Kareena make you uncomfortable?
No. It’s been a year now. The pain has receded. I know that as an actor I’m not allowed to have complete privacy even if I want to. I try to keep my personal life to myself. I want to stay connected with the person I am. Sometimes in our world we’re pulled into an illusory state. I’ll do as much as possible to protect my privacy.
Is Sania Mirza a part of your private space?
I don’t like talking about her. But we do know each other and we’re friends. A lot of people have been speculating about my personal life. And I’ve always said I’m a normal person. If I’m in a relationship, I won’t be sitting alone. I’ll go out with the person I’m in a relationship with. So people will know if something is on.
Since you’re seen with Sania, can one conclude you’re seeing her?
I go out with a lot of friends. But she’s a well-known face. So when I’m seen with her, it becomes a matter of discussion.
Did the light-hearted mood of Kismat Konnection help you get over the break-up with Kareena?
More than the film, I had my family and friends who helped me get over that phase. I don’t think a film can do it for me.
New, younger talent has come in after you. Do you still feel like a new kid on the block?
Not so new. But I hope to play ‘boy’ roles until I’m 40. Other actors are doing it. So why not me? I’m very happy being young. I started at 23. I couldn’t have asked for more. I’m quite happy playing the college student. As an actor I’m looking for good roles...boy or man is secondary.
You don’t prefer to work with a particular group of directors?
I don’t keep working with the same set of directors. Of course, it’s great to work in the comfort zone. I like going from a Sooraj Barjatya to an Imtiaz Ali. Or from Imtiaz, who’s 30-plus, to Aziz Mirza, who’s 60-plus. And now I’ve gone to Vishal. The only guy I’ve worked with more than once is Ken Ghosh. Now, we’re doing our third film together. I also have my first film with Yash Raj Films where I co-star with Rani Mukerji.

Vishal and Shahid crossed Marine Drive and Girgaum Chowpatty they heard firing behind them
Director Vishal Bharadwaj’s Kaminay shoot had to be cancelled on Wednesday and Thursday night because of the serial blasts. The director says, “We were shooting a traffic jam scene for Kaminey at Horniman Circle, which is a couple of minutes away from Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST).
We crossed CST at 9.45 pm and headed for the circle. While the men were putting up the lights, we heard firing and explosions close by. We decided to cancel the shoot immediately around 10.30 pm and head home.” According to Vishal, his leading actor Shahid Kapoor had reached the shoot by then. “Shahid left a little ahead of me.
It was a war-like situation on the streets of Mumbai. As we reached Marine Drive there were lots of police vehicles with guns pointed at us. It was terrifying!” As Vishal and Shahid crossed Marine Drive and Girgaum Chowpatty they heard firing behind them. Vishal says, “I could feel something was going to happen at Marine Drive. Later, when I reached home, I heard a couple of terrorists got killed at Girgaum. Again we got saved…”

Well here is some bad news for all Shahid Kapoor fans, the handsome actor has apparently sprained his neck and has been advised by his doctors not to dance for atleast six months to cure his injury completely.
Shahid’s illness has also hit director Ken Ghosh hard, as his next flick where Shahid plays the role of a dancer must be delayed for another six months.
A source reveals, James Martin, an American choreographer who has choreographed Britney Spears’ and Justin Timberlake’s performances in the past has been roped in by Ken Ghosh for the film but everything went for a toss since Shahid is not physically fit! He won’t be dancing for the next six months and thus the shoot of Yahoo is delayed.”

Shahid’s childhood friend Shriram’s birthday who lives in Bangalore
Bollywood is better known for rivalries, feuds and breakups more than friendship, but our very own Shahid Kapoor has changed this equation as he recently made sure to celebrate his childhood friend Shriram’s birthday with whom he has been friends for the past 18 years.
A crewmember explains, ‘’Shahid was shooting for Vishal Bharadwaj’s KAMINEY in Pune. Came 11th August and it was Shahid’s childhood friend Shriram’s birthday who lives in Bangalore. Shahid called him to Pune. Shahid just told Shriram that he had some urgent work and needed him to come to Pune. It was only when Shri Ram came to Pune that he realized that Shahid had thrown a surprise birthday get together. “
Shahid apparently had even requested director Vishal Bharadwaj to packup early so that he could celebrate his buddy’s birthday.

Fashion’ is gaining, one wonders if Shahid Kapoor is ruining the missed opportunity.
‘Agg Lage Aaj Kal De Fashion Nu’ - Now that’s yet another chartbuster track by Pritam which is fast heating up the charts. From the film Haal-e-Dil which introduces three new faces - Nakuul Mehta, Amita Pathak and Adhyayan, this Labh Janjua and Hard Kaur sung number comes with a mix of English, Hindi and Punjabi lyrics and has some great club rhythm in motion.But are you aware that this song was first offered to Shahid Kapoor who had refused it since he didn’t really feel that the song had good enough potential to become a national rage?
Confirms a source attached to Haal-e-Dil, “Yes, Pritam had composed ‘Agg Lage Aaj Kal De Fashion Nu’ for Shahid’s upcoming film Kismat Konnection keeping in mind the young and cool image that the Jab We Met star carries. However, Shahid wasn’t too convinced and requested Pritam to compose something else. The composer did oblige and did come up with some other smash hit numbers that would soon be heard in Kismat Konnection.”
Talking about the placement of the same song in Haal-e-Dil, the source divulges,
“All this while Pritam hadn’t forgotten ‘Fashion’. He was attached to the song and knew its worth. This was the time when Bhushan Kumar too was looking for a song to be included in Haal-e-Dil. Though he was aware that Anand Raaj Anand, Vishal Bhardwaj and Raghav Sachar had done a good job with their respective songs in the Kumar Mangat film, he was still in lookout of that sure shot chartbuster song which could propel album sales overnight.”
“Since Pritam has made many a hit numbers for T-Series in the past, Bhushan didn’t hesitate in approaching the composer”, reveals the source, “He asked Pritam if he could create a dance number in a jiffy and the young composer was more than happy to hand him over ‘Fashion’. Bhushan took an immediate liking to the song and soon Nakuul, Amita and Adhyayan were summoned on the sets to shoot for the dance number. Rest, as they say, is history.”
Well, looking at the kind of popularity that ‘Fashion’ is gaining, one wonders if Shahid Kapoor is ruining the missed opportunity. With due respect to the three newcomers, one thing is for sure that if Shahid would have danced to this Pritam’s tune, it would have been a different experience altogether for the viewers!

For one, the movie is set to release in the first week of July and will be his first release in six months. As Shahid says, “Yes, it is an important film because I don’t do too many films. I try and do one film at a time. So after November this is my next release. Its been almost 6 months so it’s been a long while.”
Secondly, he has developed an excellent rapport with his costar Vidya Balan. He even tries to play pranks on her. In one instance, he wore a spooky mask and tried to scare Vidya but ended up being caught by her mother who apprehended him thinking he was an intruder. The unit had a good laugh as the prank fell on the prankster.
Thirdly, Shahid literally was on a roll by picking up the sport of roller blading from some kids. He became so good at it that the director incorporated scenes of him roller blading in some songs.
Shahid is also happy that he is now occupying a space in the genre of romantic comedy. He says,” I’ve been trying for really long time but nobody offers me mature parts so what do I do? Its a romantic comedy. I think that’s a space which is young and fun and I think it always works because the target audience is that age group so you have to make it for those people. I feel I’m 27; I connect with the youth of today.
Shahid is intelligent, thinking and a professional actor.
The actor, however, wishes to clarify his stand on a story printed in a tabloid recently.
It said that how Vidya (Balan) and Shahid had gone out for lunch and did not return for over three hours bringing the shooting of Ken Ghosh’s new untitled film produced by UTV to a standstill.
But a close friend of Shahid’s clarified that, "while that Vidya his co star from Kismat Konnection and a very dear friend had dropped in to say hi after which they proceeded to catch a quick lunch during the lunch time which lasted for 45 mins.
And that as a professional Shahid would never hold up work for hours on end just to have lunch with a friend, the story is untrue".
Recently there was also another report that Shahid interferes in the shooting of the film and likes calling the shoots for the same.
Ken Ghosh clarifies this baseless story.
Says Ken, "Shahid is a thorough professional. This is a very stupid story. Shahid has never interfered in my work and in any of my films shooting, and to suggest it’s as good as insulting my capability as a director.
I and Shahid are good buddies; we bounce of ideas of each other. It is not interference. Shahid is intelligent, thinking and a professional actor.
